Happy Memorial Day. And thank you to all the men and women who have served our country.
Welcome back to Weekend Snippets.
Here’s the last snippet from the first scene of WYOMING ESCAPE. Mikela Richards is running in a woodsy park when she hears gunfire, sees a man with a gun, finds a dead body and runs away when someone comes out of the woods. She gets back to her car and roars out of the parking lot. This last bit is more than eight sentences, but necessary.
***
A few blocks away, Mikela pulled up in front of a gas station with a public pay phone. She stared at it for a long minute. Did she dare take the chance? She could ignore the gun shots, but a dead man was different. She’d have to trust the cops couldn’t trace the call to her. Talking fast and loudly, she reported the murder and the man with the gun. When the operator asked for her name, she hung up. She knew what could happen after you found a body. She knew the police were not her friends.
She knew that a determined cop could make her life hell.
Mikela definitely has a secret to hid. An the man with the gun might also not be the murderer. This is all so mysterious…
Lots of secrets here. Thanks for looking.
Oh, I love a girl with a past! She wants to help, but not get involved. Very intriguing snippet.
Definitely has a reason to not get involved. Thanks for stopping.
So why would the police not be her friend? Interesting.
Have to read more to answer that question. 🙂
Wow! No wonder she knew what to do in the previous snippets—she has some experience. Nice!
Unfortunately true. Thanks for stopping by.
And let’s hope it wasn’t a crooked cop killing that guy out there, Great tension in this story and this snippet, Kate. I’m really enjoying it. 🙂
Glad you like it. 🙂
Uh-oh. Nice reveal of mystery in her past!

Glad you like it.
High stakes here for sure! Great snippet.
Very high stakes – for her.
Great way to end this snippet – Mikela’s aversion to cops, hmm, why indeed?
At least she keeps her head.
Well, well, well, I wonder what a determined cop might find out…can’t wait to learn the cause of her distrust!
She’s got good reason.
Well done. Can’t wait to find out more.
Thanks for taking a look.
Did she touch something at the scene of the crime? Unless her fingerprints are on the dead body, it makes me wonder why she’s so scared of the cops. Maybe she has a record herself 😉 Lots of mystery and questions. Great 8!
Her past may explain some things. 🙂
